I love the new title! I will likely be rebranding mine now that I know what I want to write about. Happy to talk memoir selling strategies, as I finally sold mine and it’s coming out next year.
It sounds like you’ve put in so much work on this memoir. You’ve got to see it get published!
This month I returned back to writing (including posting on my Substack), which I hadn’t done in almost a year. Ironically, it’s because I’ve been off work due to a chronic illness which has allowed me the headspace to write.
I’m sorry to hear about your chronic illness. It’s funny how our priorities can shift when we’re dealing with health issues. Good for you for taking this time to write!
I just wanted to say how much I admire your dedication and courage to keep pursuing your dream of getting published. I know the process can feel overwhelming at times, but remember—you’ve already accomplished the hardest part by writing your story. Please don’t give up!
On a personal note, I recently made the decision to slow down and focus on my health for the first time in my life. It hasn’t been easy, but I’m proud of myself for taking that step. The journey isn’t over, but I’ve discovered a strength in myself that I never knew existed.
Ah, thanks so much, Lucia! I’ll be honest, sometimes it’s really hard to keep motivated with my book. But the longer I spend on it, the harder it is for me to give up! So I guess I just have to keep ploughing on 🥲
It’s brilliant that you’re slowing down and focusing on your health. What has that looked like for you? I’ve been on a similar journey since I got sick. I try to go for a daily walk, do a couple of short strength training sessions a week, and keep stress to a minimum whenever possible.
I had surgery in April, and I’ll need to have another one soon. My surgeon is still waiting for the results of my genetic test, which will help decide whether the next surgery will be more radical or a simpler procedure. Waiting for these results has made me feel very anxious and stressed.
During my recovery, I’ve been doing physiotherapy, taking lots of walks, and exercising at home. I try to relax and focus on things that make me happy, but it’s not easy. I just want to get through this phase so I can focus on my treatment and recovery. Sometimes, I feel stuck—it really is a test of patience.
I’m so sorry, Lucia. I know all about waiting on test results/genetic results/next stage of treatment. It really is a mind game as much as it is anything else. It sounds like you’re doing everything you can to take care of yourself! But you’re right, it’s not easy. I’m cheering you on! 🧡 xx
